This was a chance to present the music and story to the audience in a very raw form to see the reaction. They got more excitement than they even expected, with the audience not only applauding, but some shedding tears and showing surprise, despite lack of blocking, costumes and props. Many audience members were already chomping at the bit to see the full production, which they hope to bring back to The Wick in Boca Raton before moving on to the West End (London) and Broadway (NY).

Executive producer Marilynn Wick could not be more excited about the idea of it going on to the Great White Way. After all, she has the largest collection of Broadway costumes already in her costume museum, located at The Wick, and her in-house designers would love to design for the show, said Wick, who has been in the costume business for 38 years. Wick is planning to announce her next season at the Wick on Saturday.

Drew Tucker, who co-produced the show, knew “Song of Solomon” had to be put on this stage, in Palm Beach County. Native to the area, he knew it would be the perfect testing ground for the show.

“You don’t get a show like this anymore. You don’t get sweeping epics, like a new ‘Evita’ or ‘Miss Saigon,’ you get what sells [like ‘Lion King’],” he said.
