The Deerfield Beach Historical Society and local veterans groups will honor members of the military who lost their lives in service to our country. The ceremony will include the presentation of the colors, an invocation, singing of the national anthem, a 21-gun salute, a concert of patriotic music, and commemorations by local public officials and citizens. The City of Deerfield Beach and the American Legion will hold a Memorial Day Ceremony on the fishing pier. This year, a plaque will be dedicated to Specialist Daniel Courtney Lawson, a graduate of Deerfield Beach High School, who lost his life during deployment in Afghanistan in 2009.
