It appears the city told them on Wednesday or Thursday that their permit was not approved. Evidently, there is a rule, which is posted somewhere in City Hall, that venues can only have an event once every 90 days, according to a source at Island Water Sports, who added they have worked hard on this event and will hope to reschedule it soon. BSO arrests two Deerfield youths for series of ATM robberies

Posted on 28 January 2016 by LeslieM

A third person is being sought

On Monday Jan. 25, a Broward Sheriff’s Office surveillance operation paid off when three men were spotted loitering near a Pompano Beach bank. Between mid-December and mid-January at least five robberies at walk-up and drive-through ATMs were reported in Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach, prompting the BSO’s VIPER response team to set up the surveillance post.

The robbers’ method was for two of the men to startle victims and hold them at gunpoint while demanding cash from the ATM; they would then flee with the loot.

As the VIPER team approached the three loiterers on Monday, they fled on foot. Two 17-year-old male residents of Deerfield Beach were apprehended, while a third escaped and is being sought. The two in custody have admitted committing at least five robberies, and were planning another one when interrupted by the BSO.

Anyone believing they have been victimized by these robbers, or with information leading to the third robber, should contact the BSO robbery detectives at 954-321-4270.

Did you see the helicopter circling around Powerline Road and Hillsboro Boulevard on Sept. 17 around 8 p.m and wonder what was going on?

The Observer was on the scene watching about a half dozen police cars in the area so decided to investigate. It turns out it was a false alarm at the nearby Check ‘N Go, at 3628 W Hillsboro Blvd.”

One deputy said, “We got an alarm. The helicopter was there to check the roofs, which we can’t check [from the ground.]”

Nothing was stolen and everything appeared to be okay so they left the scene.

Hit & Run — LHP

At approximately 10 p.m. on Sept. 13,  there was a hit & run on Federal Highway in the southbound lane right south of 49 Street in Lighthouse Point. The victim was a local homeless man, Claude Michaud, 62. Firetrucks and police cars surrounded the scene.

A man was with his friend at McDonald’s and saw the scene unfold. He says a “green truck” hit the man, paused momentarily once he reached the corner and then drove off. BSO has expanded to look for all dark colored vehicles.

Another witness said, “I heard a noise, a screech, and I came around to get a parfait at McDonalds and that’s when I saw the body.”

They speculated over why the man might have driven away, saying he “could have had a case… look there are no lights here,” pointing to the street light above on the opposite side of the street. “But he drove off…”

They shared stories about the man they knew, speaking of him fondly, saying he never really bothered anyone; but he was arrested several times for trespassing. They said he would sleep behind the 7-11 or behind the wall just behind the nearby bus stop, but kept getting told he was not allowed to stay there.

Detectives are searching for the driver. Investigators urge anyone with information to contact BSO Detective Michael Kelliher at 954-321-4840. Anonymous tips can be made to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.

About 9 am today Wednesday a crew digging on Federal Hwy in Deerfield chopped a gas main.

They were digging at the site a the new giant Cumberland Farms gas station at SE 13 and Federal.

All traffic on Federal_DSC8915 Hwy from SE 10th to SE 13 Ct is being diverted.  BSFR Hazmat is having to

dig by hand to get it shutdown. This is one huge problem with that much gas pouring out.

Fiery crash closes down Hillsboro Boulevard, victim identified– Deerfield Beach

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on July 31, onlookers could see a vehicle, a 2015 blue Hyndai Sonata, engulfed in flames with a possible person lying in the street in the westbound lane of Hillsboro Boulevard. The accident caused the road to be blocked off by BSO.

Sources say the crash was caused by the car traveling at high speed, jumping the curb and hitting a tree causing the engine to catch fire. The driver was supposedly pulled out of the vehicle and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue attempted to save his life, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.

On Aug. 1, the name of the driver was released as 32-year-old David Alejandro Garcia Ramirez of Deerfield Beach.
