Strong Arm Robbery Arrest near Deerfield Century Village

An elderly victim was robbed of her purse as she stepped off a bus near her Century Village home.  The victim sustained minor injuries during the attack.  Detectives from the Deerfield Beach District and the BSO Robbery Unit worked jointly to identify and apprehend the suspect.  The suspect was charged with Strong Arm Robbery.

DEERFIELD BEACH

March 28 Residents near SE 12 Avenue observed a suspect stopped on the bridge area and threw an object into the canal. Police came, and are investigating the incident. Object turned out to be a stolen ATM machine.

March 29 Home on NE 44 Court was burglarized and various electronics were stolen.

March 30 Police responded to shots fired near the 300 block of SW 14 Street. Reports were of 5-6 Haitian males arguing before a rapid succession of gun fire. Police found 12 spent casings, but no suspects.

March 30 Debra Tomasello was arrested for falsely selling air time on the radio and then using the customer’s credit card numbers to spend over $20,000 in merchandise, gift cards and to pay bills.

March 31 A victim came home on SW 1 Terrace to find a black male inside her home stealing TV, jewelry and checkbooks. Suspect fled.

March 31 Air conditioner, refrigerator and stove were stolen from a vacant home on NE 2 Terrace.

April 1 Golf cart left with its keys inside was stolen from outside 41 N. Federal Hwy.

April 1 John McFadden, of Lauderdale Lakes, was arrested for stealing two cars from NE 2 Street.

April 1 Man pretending to do landscaping behind a home on SW 14 Court distracted the homeowner so another unknown suspect could sneak into the home and steal items.

April 3 Six unsecured vehicles parked on SE 15 Avenue were burglarized. Another car on SE 8 Street was also burglarized, as well as two more on SE 6 Street, in addition to a home on SE 8 Avenue.

April 3 Unlocked vehicle on NW 38 Terrace was burglarized.

 

DEERFIELD – District 4

April 2-3 BSO deputies responded to several vehicle burglary reports throughout the city. In almost all cases, the victims did not lock their vehicles and left items of value in plain view. Please lock your vehicle doors and do not leave items of value in sight. Residents are reminded to call 911 immediately to report suspicious activity.

April 5 Unusual incidents were reported early morning in the Hammocks at Riverglen area,100 block of NW 42 Way. Deputies responded in reference to a burglary in progress involving two white or Hispanic males breaking into vehicles and taking garage door openers. Suspects fled in a northeast direction. Perimeter was set up and K-9 and aviation units responded. K-9 tracked for several blocks but came back with negative results. There were several vehicles broken into and a garage door was opened. As of 3:50 a.m., total loss was approximately $450.

March 27 Car had its windows smashed near 4060 N. Federal Hwy. and a purse in plain view was stolen.

March 28 1999 Chevy Suburban  parked at a home NE 28 Court was stolen.

March 28 Lawnmower and blower were stolen from a home on NE 20 Avenue.

Vehicle Burglaries – The Hammocks & Gates of Hillsboro

Burglars struck The Hammocks and Gates of Hillsboro communities yesterday morning stealing items left in plain view in unlocked vehicles. In some cases, garage door openers were targeted which would allow thieves to return and burglarize the victim’s home. Please lock your doors and do not leave anything in your vehicle. Detectives are diligently working leads in an effort to solve these cases.

DEERFIELD BEACH

March 21 Wilnick Lozandier was arrested for trying to break into a bedroom with a large chef’s knife.

March 23 Orville Thomas worked at Terminix and used that as a cover to steal $5,100 in jewelry from a homeowner in Deerfield.

March 24 A victim loaned an iPhone 4 to an unknown who walked away with it.

March 25 Thieves stopped by an unlocked door on Crystal Lake Drive and stole a Sony Vizio laptop.

March 25 A jeweler on W. Hillsboro Boulevard purchased five bracelets from a customer and realized she gave $1,500 for fake jewelry. Buyer tried to get her back money, but seller refused.

March 26 A suspect was issued a notice to appear in court for diving off the pier and swimming nearby.

March 27 Three vehicles were burglarized at St. Ambrose. Windows were smashed to get purses left inside.

DEERFIELD – District 4

March 18 Residential burglary occurred in the Deer Creek community, 549 Emerald Way W, between 1 and 1:20 p.m.Unknown suspect(s) entered victim’s residence by removing the screen to an open, front window. Suspect(s) stole a gun, computer, cash, jewelry and passports totaling approximately $7,000. No house alarm or surveillance video. Scene processed and neighborhood canvassed.

March 13 A 2010 Chevy Mailbu was rented from Thrifty Car Rental and never returned.

March 16 A BMW parked outside Bonefish Mac’s on Sample Road was burglarized.

March 17 A man tried to pass a counterfeit $100 at Publix in Lighthouse Point and management caught the bill as he tried to use it at the register. The suspect, Duan Moreno, attempted to flee, traveling northbound on Federal in the southbound lane. Driver had a suspended license and is also facing counterfeit charges in addition to tampering with evidence since the suspects threw an envelope with  counterfeit money out the window.

March 21 Two unlocked cars on NE 26 Street and NE 26 Avenue were burglarized.

March 14 A victim in NW Deerfield led a realtor and two potential buyers through her home and reported a $10,000 Rolex watch missing.

March 15 A victim had a laptop computer stolen from their car at USA Parking Garage in Deerfield Beach.

March 15 A thief who burglarized Deerfield Country Club was caught by police and arrested. Leecon Blackstock confessed to the burglary and was taken to jail. He also confessed to burglaries at three other Deerfield business locations.

March 17 A chained bicycle was stolen from the side of a building in Siesta Key.

March 17 A bag with electronic equipment worth $1,800 was stolen from a Toyota van on Country Club Boulevard.

March 18 Rodney Lance was arrested after being seen entering vehicles in the area of SE 10 Terrace.

March 18 Meds RX Pharmacy on W. Hillsboro Boulevard was burglarized. A large number of prescription pills and $100 was stolen.

March 20 Marvin Seskar, of Pompano Beach, was killed off W. Hillsboro Boulevard after he drove his motorcycle at a very high rate of speed down the road and ran into a vehicle. He was thrown airborne and flew 362 feet. The motorcycle went airborne and hit six cars before landing into a white Ford van parked nearby.

DEERFIELD – District 4

March 15 Residential burglary occurred in Deer Creek, NW corner of Green Road and Military Trail, between 7:10 a.m. and 4:25 p.m. Unknown subject smashed sliding glass door and stole victim’s jewelry. Scene processed, area canvassed. Suspect is a black male in his 30s, driving an older white vehicle. Neighbor observed suspect parked in victim’s driveway.

March 16 Residential burglary was reported at Quiet Waters Apartments, 59 NW 45th Ave., #307, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.When victim left apartment, the glass sliding door was open and the screen closed. Upon victim’s return home, 42″ flat screen television and two laptop computers were missing. The screen door had been opened. Victim lives on third floor and didn’t think anybody could get up to the balcony. Area canvass found a possible witness who observed two juvenile white males with a television on a “go-ped” at 10 a.m. in front of victim’s building.

Residential burglary Arrests

BSO deputies from Deerfield Beach and North Lauderdale worked together to solve a string of residential burglaries. North Lauderdale deputies conducted a traffic stop where four suspects were detained after stolen property was found inside the vehicle. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of two suspects for Deerfield Beach burglaries occurring in 1,)1200 block of NW 52 Way and 2,) 4000 block of Eastridge Drive. The investigation continues.

March 7 A business on W. Hillsboro Boulevard was burglarized, and a PlayStation 3, $500 and shoes were stolen.

March 7 A purse left in the car at Berkshire Motel was stolen from an unlocked car.

March 9 A victim put a Rolex watch poolside at a Deerfield Beach hotel and it was stolen.

March 10 A boat trailer was stolen from an owner at Freedom Marina.

March 12 Victual McNeal, of Deerfield, who had two prior robberies and was also out on bond for other Deerfield burglaries, was arrested for stealing a purse. He had to be chased on foot and tased.

LIGHTHOUSE POINT

March 4 Unknown thieves stole a victim’s cell phone and $291 in cash while she waited in line at the deli inside Publix, 3700 N. Federal Hwy.

March 5 A male called the victim, pretending to be her 28-year-old grandson. Suspect told the victim he came with a friend to Canada and the friend had gotten busted for drugs in the vehicle, had to appear before a judge and needed $9,390 in attorney’s fees. Victim believed it was her grandson and made three wire transactions before another “attorney” called asking for two more payments of $2,900. Her real grandson finally called, and she realized it was a scam. The victim told police she had heard of these scams before, but really believed it was her grandson.

March 5 Two locked kayaks worth $900 were stolen from a home on NE 29 Street.

DEERFIELD – District 4

March 12 Conveyance burglary occured in Constitution Park, 2841 W. Hillsboro Blvd. between 4 and 5 p.m. Victim said unknown person(s) smashed the windows on a minivan, removing a purse, debit cards and Social Security cards.

March 11-12 Auto theft was reported in Deer Pointe, 263 NW 36 Ave. between 6:30 p.m. and 7:55 a.m. Victim stated unknown suspect(s) removed 2005 Acura RSX from the parking lot. No suspects, witnesses or video. Vehicle entered into teletype.

March 9-10 Grand theft occured at Waterford Courtyards, 2965 N Waterford Dr. between 9:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m.Victim said unknown suspect(s) removed the stock rims and tires from his 2008 Infiniti G35. No suspects, witnesses or video. Area canvass came up with negative results.

March 5-11 Attempted residential burglary at Crystal Heights/Waterford Homes, 1451 SW 25 Ave., sometime between March 5 and 11. Victim advised that during this period, unknown person(s) caused damage to the door jam of the side garage door and bent the window frame to a side window. It appears that unknown person(s) attempted to enter into the home to no avail. Victim did not see any damage to the door or window last week when cutting grass, but does not know when damage occurred. Total damage estimated at $200.

Feb. 28 A 40-foot shipping box was stolen from SW 30 Avenue with $4,000 worth of items.

March 1 Three cars were burglarized at Quiet Waters Apartments on NW 45 Avenue.

March 1 More than $5,000 in jewelry was stolen from a home on Eastridge Drive.

March 1 Jason Walker, 28, was an employee of Hess, 714 S. Federal Hwy., when he was arrested for stealing $2,000 in cigarettes and other cash.

March 4 A car parked on NW 1 Drive had its window broken. Stolen was: a wooden chest with a Taurus .357, money, and a stamp and coin collection.

March 5 A juvenile victim outside 380 S. Federal Hwy. claimed two unknown Haitians hit him in the face with rebar. Another juvenile was also attacked here and a cell phone and bike were stolen during the carnival.

March 6 A home on SE 2 Avenue, with an unlocked bedroom window, had over $3,000 in electronics stolen.

DEERFIELD – District 4

March 1 Residential burglary at Crystal View Townhomes, 4057 Eastridge Dr., between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Upon returning home, victim discovered house was burglarized. Point of entry was a rear sliding glass door. All rooms were heavily ransacked. Jewelry was taken from the upstairs master bedroom. Scene was processed and area canvas conducted.

March 4 Residential burglary attempt in Deer Creek at 25 Deer Creek Rd. between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. Victim reported unknown subject broke his rear glass slider and possibly fled when alarm sounded. Victim reported nothing appeared to be taken. Area was checked with negative results.

March 4 Residential burglary in the Gates of Hillsboro, 4100 block of NW 1 Dr., at approximately 12 p.m. Suspects broke a rear window to gain entry and removed several items. A canvass of the neighborhood by deputies revealed a neighbor saw a male in a white van soliciting a lawn service door-to-door.

Feb. 26 A truck parked in Shoppes of Beacon Light had its tire and rim, worth $200, stolen.

Feb. 26 One truck on NE 22 Avenue and another on NE 27 Court were burglarized.

March 3 A car parked outside ABC Daycare on Federal Highway was burglarized after thieves smashed a window to get the purse the victim left in the car while she ran into the daycare.

March 3 Two flat screen TVs were stolen from a home on NE 26 Street.

March 3 A Garmin GPS was stolen from a car burglarized at 2470 N. Federal Hwy.

Feb. 24 Prostitution arrest was made at 4800 N. Dixie Hwy. at 4:15 a.m. Black female from Green Acres  was observed walking southbound on Dixie Highway. Deputy working undercover was able to negotiate sex for money. Upon taking subject into custody, cocaine was also located and a warrant for violation of parole.

Feb. 25 At 4:45 p.m., a call was received from Coral Springs Police Dept. (CSPD) regarding a 911 call they received — a bomb threat. CSPD reported that caller stated: “I put a bomb on the Hillsboro bridge/beach” – call taker could not determine if caller said bridge or beach. Disconnected cell phone used to place the call was untraceable by 911. Entire bridge at the Intracoastal Waterway and E. Hillsboro Boulevard was checked by deputies on foot and BSO Marine Unit. Deputies also checked Deerfield pier. Bomb Unit and Hillsboro Beach Police Dept. were notified. Nothing unusual was found.

Feb. 25 Hazmat incident was reported at noon at 473 Goolsby Blvd. Deputies responded to location regarding chemical fire. Deerfield Beach Fire Rescue responded and determined there was no fire but nontoxic chemicals reacted to other non toxic powders, causing smoke to fill warehouse. Broward County Fire Rescue and Sunrise Hazmat responded to clear building of smoke. Eventually area was determined safe to enter.

Feb. 25 Deputies responded to grand theft at Breezy Hill Mobile Home Park, 800 NE 48 St., at noon. Victim advised that unknown suspect removed bicycle from exterior of RV. While on scene, deputy was approached by five other victims who all stated their bicycles were removed by unknown suspects. Bikes were left unlocked. No suspect, witnesses, video.

Feb. 26 Deputies responded to a disturbance at Kahuna Bar & Grill at 12:29 a.m. Deputy attempting to arrest subject for disorderly conduct was kicked in the upper chest area. Deputy tased subject, who was charged with obstruction and resisting arrest with violence.

DEERFIELD – District 4

Feb. 25 Residential burglary reported. Victims advised that sometime during the last 24 hours, unknown suspect(s) attempted to enter their respective residences — 480 Jefferson Dr. #201 and 202, Deer Creek, by prying the locks on the front doors. No entry was made at either location.

Feb. 25 Residential burglary reported at 205 SW 34 Ave., Deer Run area, between 12:30-1:40 p.m.Victim stated unknown suspects smashed the glass to the kitchen back door and ransacked the residence. Suspect(s) cut the phone line and removed a cellular modem hidden in the closet. Only things targeted were jewelry and cash. No suspects, witnesses or video. Crime scene processed.

Feb. 27 Conveyance burglary at Quiet Waters Park, 401 S. Powerline Rd., between 2:30-6:50 p.m. BSO responded to Renaissance Festival parking, where owner advised he returned from the festival to find the rear window to his vehicle smashed out. Once inside, suspects removed a handbag from under the rear seat. Loss was $675 and the scene was processed. A tan ladies’ purse was found in the rear bed of a truck and this was traced to a second unreported burglary. No suspects or witnesses.

Feb. 28 Conveyance burglary at 19 NW 45 Ave., Quiet Waters Apartments, sometime after 5:15 p.m.Victims awoke at 7:15 a.m.and discovered the aforementioned vehicles were burglarized overnight sometime. Possible lead on a juvenile suspected in the break-ins.

LIGHTHOUSE POINT

Feb. 15. A woman was arrested and charged with petit theft after stealing items from Publix at 3700 N. Federal Hwy.

Feb. 16. A woman reported that someone broke the driver’s side window of her car, entered the car and stole a black tote bag containing suntan oil and a bathing suit. The woman said it cost $400 to replace the window and the contents of the bag were valued at $100. Incident took place at 2631 NE 50 St.

Feb. 19. A woman reported that a patio lounge chair valued at $100 was taken from her home at 5030 NE 22 Ave. The woman told police that a man approached her about the chair and asked if he could have it; she said she believes the man is a trash picker (he may have believed it was trash).

Feb. 22. A man reported a rear tire on his car was slashed. The incident took place at 4200 NE 22 Terr.

Feb. 16 A juvenile was arrested at Deerfield Beach High after he stole a 2002 Ford Explorer from a business on North Dixie Highway.

Feb. 16 Police responded to reports of five juveniles ruining recently-poured concrete on SW 10 Street. Teens were gone when police arrived, but names, words and drawings were already carved into the concrete.

Feb. 17 A woman was unloading her grocery cart at Target on W. Hillsboro Boulevard when a possible gray Honda approached, a black male exited the car and stole her purse from the cart.

Feb. 20 Police were called to SE 8 Avenue after a 55-gallon drum of oil was found spilled into the storm drain. No witnesses.

Feb. 20 Home on NW 3 Court was burglarized and jewelry stolen.

Feb. 20 Peter Alvarado, of Boca, was arrested for trying to steal a toilet from Home Depot.

DEERFIELD — District 4

Feb. 18 BSO deputies working a burglary operation in the Gates of Hillsboro stopped two suspicious people soliciting door to door.  One suspect was in the country illegally and had an extensive criminal past.  He was handed over to Immigration authorities for further investigation.  These suspects are not connected to recent burglaries in the area. Deputies are continuing their efforts to apprehend those responsible.

Feb. 18 BSO deputies responded to the 3200 block of SW 1 Street in Deer Run after an alert neighbor witnessed a suspect remove fishing poles from a residence. Deputies used the information to locate and arrest the suspect near Century Village and Hillsboro boulevards. Suspect was charged with burglary and petit theft. (This is another great example of community policing at work.)

Feb. 22 Male teen was observed knocking on the doors of homes in the Deer Run neighborhood Tuesday morning around 11 a.m.  Resident who reported the activity thought it was suspicious because the young man did not appear to have a reason for approaching these homes. The resident also observed the teen approach a white older model car that had been circling the neighborhood.

Feb. 1 A stereo and $1,000 was stolen from a home on NE 20 Avenue.

Feb. 2 Thieves entered an unlocked door on SE 14 Court and stole a TV, jewelry and glass jar with change.

Feb. 2 A fight at Deerfield Beach Middle School was broken up and the victim sent to North Broward Medical Center with minor injuries.

Feb. 4 Marlon McKay of Pompano was arrested for possession of cocaine.

Feb. 4 Robert Ostrover was arrested near Lob Lolly Lane for multiple burglaries in the area.

Feb. 6 Jorge Paiton of Lake Worth was arrested for urinating in public and exposing himself off Hillsboro Blvd. He also had no driver’s license.

DEERFIELD – District 4

Feb. 5 Grand theft, Waterford Homes, 1392 SW 27 Ave., between  5:30 p.m. and 1:45 a.m.
Unknown suspect(s) stole the headlight assemblies and rear view mirror from a vehicle while parked in the driveway.

Feb. 5 Conveyance burglary, Ruby Tuesday, 3887 W. Hillsboro Blvd., between noon and 3 p.m. Complainant reported that unknown person broke into her vehicle by smashing the side window. Complainant’s purse was taken. Vehicle was processed for latent prints and the area was canvassed.

Feb. 6 BSO detectives worked around the clock late Friday through Saturday morning to solve the recent residential burglaries in Deer Creek. A suspect has been arrested and charged with the burglaries on Lob Lolly Lane, Deer Creek Run, and another in Starlight Cove.

Suspect was taken into custody for an active warrant on Friday afternoon. During questioning, suspect admitted to committing several burglaries in Deer Creek (Lob Lolly and Deer Creek Run) and one in Starlight Cove off NW 38 Avenue. Suspect was able to provide specific details to the crimes including location, timeframe, entry method and property description. Some property has been recovered, however ,detectives are still attempting to match it with the crimes committed.

Detectives used witness information, evidence, investigative technology, and interviewing skills to solve these cases. Suspect is in custody without bond for several counts of burglary (occupied and unoccupied), grand theft, and an outstanding warrant.

One of the most important details of this situation is that the break in the case came from information received from a resident. Remember, if you see suspicious activity, call 911 immediately.

LIGHTHOUSE POINT

Jan. 30 A LHP resident moving out of NE 44 Street reported that movers had stolen her laptop computer.

Jan. 30 Police inspected sheen on the canal behind NE 31 Court and found it on all canals in the south end of Lighthouse Point. There was no smell of fuel, so it seemed a dirty bilge had been pumped into the canals. They didn’t locate the source and reported the problem to water management.

Jan. 31 Simonize on Federal Highway was burglarized. Police arrived as glass was still falling from the break in the door. Police did not locate a suspect.
