Aug. 21: A man reported his license plate stolen from his vehicle parked at 1107 SW 15 St.

Aug. 23: Following a traffic stop a man was arrested and charged with narcotics offenses. He was arrested for possession of cocaine and marijuana at 286 W. Hillsboro Blvd.

Aug. 23: A man reported that someone entered his vehicle parked at 609 Siesta Key Cir. and stole a computer, backpack, jewelry, head phones and other items.

Aug. 24: A regional asset protection manager with Tire Kingdom reported that two men, both former employees, stole $2,119 in transactions. The incident was reported at 2525 W. Sample Rd.

Aug. 25: A man reported being attacked by a man who followed him home at 94 SE 3 Ave.

Aug. 14: The victim was involved in a minor traffic accident before the incident at 2900 N. Federal Hwy. The subject stood in front of the car door while the victim assessed the damage. The victim said the subject struck him in the face and chest three times. Then, as the victim sat down in his car, the subject kicked him in his face and chest. When the victim closed the vehicle door, the subject kicked the door causing $1,000 in damage.

Aug. 14: The subject was trespassed from a store at 2450 N. Federal Hwy. for a previous larceny.

Aug. 12: The subject was trespassed from a store at 3580 N. Federal Hwy. after he appeared to be intoxicated in a store restroom. The store manager called police and reported the subject was in the bathroom for about 20 minutes. When police knocked on the door the subject answered and exited a short time later. Police said the subject appeared to be intoxicated or under the influence of something.

Aug. 14: A woman reported that someone broke the passenger side of her car window with a brick at 1110 S. Military Tr. It was later determined that a wallet was stolen.

Aug. 14: A man reported that someone broke into his home at 1310 SW 10 Terr., and stole his television and speaker.

Aug. 14: A man reported that he was attacked and punched in the face by a man he knew at 399 SW 13 Pl.

Aug. 14: A woman reported that her cell phone was stolen. She believes it might have been stolen when she was among a group of friends. The incident was reported at 500 N. Deerfield Ave.

Aug. 14: Two vehicles were broken into at 131 N. Powerline Rd. In the first vehicle, a woman reported that someone smashed out a window and stole a Dell laptop computer valued at $2,000. In the second vehicle, a man reported that someone smashed out a window and stole a bag containing 75 pocket knives.

July 29: An alarm sounded at the residence at 5130 NE 28 Ave. Police performed an area check and both the windows and the doors appeared secure.

July 29: A male subject was observed loitering in the area at 2900 N. Federal Hwy. and then left in a Toyota. The subject was gone when police arrived.

August 9: A male subject was observed loitering in the area at 2500 NE 36 St. and then possibly left in a Mini Cooper. The subject was gone when police arrived.

Aug. 7: A man reported that someone entered his home at 4821 NW 18 Ave. The suspect then fled.

Aug. 7: A man reported that someone stole his trailer valued at $3,000 from 731 NE 42 St. The trailer was found to have been sold to a person in Hialeah for $750 and re-registered.

Aug. 11: A man said his home at 165 SW 5 Ct. was broken into and $800 stolen.

Aug. 11: A woman reported her wallet stolen from 200 NE 21 Ave.

July 18: The property manager said there was damage to an exterior wall at 2400 N. Federal Hwy. The cost to repair was between $500 and $700.

July 22: The victim believes he lost his ring while working on his son’s truck at 2402 NE 27 St. The loss was $1,500.

July 23: A bank card was found at 4521 NE 22 Ave. and turned over to police.

July 31: A man said that someone entered his car parked at 540 SW Natura Ave. and stole about $30 in change and a wallet with credit cards.

August 1: An individual driving a Ford Ranger stole about $1,000 worth of power tools from Home Depot at 60 SW 12 Ave.

August 1: A man said that his vehicle parked at 4550 NW 18 Ave. was broken into and two drills and other items were stolen.

August 2: A man reported that another man robbed him at gunpoint. A Gucci book bag valued at $1,200 and a MacBook Pro valued at $1,000 were stolen. The incident was reported at 85 W. Hillsboro Blvd.

August 2: A man said a trailer and wave runner were stolen from 2571 W. Hillsboro Blvd.

July 19: The victim said someone stole a Trek bicycle with a child seat that was unlocked outside a store at 2450 N. Federal Hwy. The loss was $380.

July 26: The store manager observed a male subject take a can of soda and left without paying for it. The subject was previously trespassed from the store at 3780 N. Federal Hwy. The loss was $1.

July 26: The victim said someone left a note on her daughter’s vehicle asking her to call a number. The victim at 5100 block of NE 28 Ave. called the number and the person sent an inappropriate photo to her. She notified her mother and they blocked the number and contacted police. Officers contacted the subject and advised him not to contact the victim again.

July 21: It was reported that someone entered a business through a bathroom ceiling and stole three keys to vehicles. The incident was reported at 3991 N. Dixie Hwy.

July 23: A woman reported that people broke into her home at 320 N. Deerfield Ave. She ran to a neighbor’s house and reported what was happening. The neighbor, a witness to the incident, saw three people leave the home.

July 23: A woman reported that someone stole her credit card at 778 SW 2 Ave.

July 23: A woman reported that her boyfriend hit her several times at 1277 W. Hillsboro Blvd.

July 27: A man reported that four people attacked him at 3770 NE 3 Ave.

July 28: A woman reported her vehicle, a Fiat 500L, was stolen at 1272 S. Military Tr.

July 15: Police responded to a call of a male subject outside a business panhandling, and, when police arrived, the subject was inside the store at 3700 N. Federal Hwy. Police had him sign a trespassing waiver and he left the store with the understanding he was no longer allowed back.

July 14: Multiple subjects entered the store at 3580 N. Federal Hwy. and stole cosmetics and fled in a vehicle. It is unknown what was taken.

July 19: The property manager at 2400 N. Federal Hwy. found a barrier wall to have wax on it. The victim believed the wax was used for skateboarding and would cost between $500 and $700 to repair.

The Deerfield Little League Junior Division Mets squad finished runner-up in the state tournament in Tallahassee.

The local squad opened with a 7-0 loss against the South Beaches and needed to win both games of a doubleheader to reach the title game.

“My pre-game pep talk was focused, not on the failures of our last game, but on reminding the team how we got here, how well we played all season, how we crushed most of our opponents, and how much fun we had along the way,” said Deerfield Beach manager Jason Siracusa, who is also the president of the Deerfield Beach Little League. “Once I started seeing the smiles slowly appearing on their faces, I knew we were going to have a good day.”

Deerfield Beach responded following a five-hour rain delay with a 2-0 win over the defending state champion South Fort Myers team behind RBIs from Sanders Chartier and Keanu Siracusa and a 12-8 victory over South Lakes to advance to the title game.

“We opened up a lead against South Lakes and although our pitchers began to struggle and gave up the lead we didn’t panic because we knew we had the momentum,” Siracusa said. “We were hitting really well so my confidence in our team was high. We took the lead back for good and after 13 hours of warm up, play, rain delays and more play this group of kids left the field tired, wet and muddy with a pair of wins and a trip to the championship game.”

Chartier had 2 hits and 3 RBIs, and Thomas had 2 hits and 2 RBIs, while Brock Buerosse had 2 RBIs. Lorenzo Feliciano, Keanu Siracusa, Dawson Lallance, Maxwell Thomson and Janelle Calvet each had an RBI as well. Gio Caffro, Lallance, Thomson, Calvet, and Kyle Adams each were outstanding on the mound for the Mets during the tournament.

Deerfield Beach then ran into juggernaut Inverness, who took apart the local team in an 18-0 win. It was the fourth straight double-digit win by Inverness in the tournament. In fact, Inverness won all three games in their pool and the championship without giving up a single run.

The lone bright spot for the Mets in the title game was a single by Thomas in the second inning.

“Unfortunately, it seems that, for the championship game, these kids were simply worn out,” Siracusa added. “We struggled in the field and at the plate and just couldn’t catch up to Inverness who had a very impressive team.”

Siracusa also cited the performance of Feliciano, who was taken to the emergency room Friday morning due to complications from his diabetes and placed in intensive care before being released Saturday.

“Although we could see he was struggling, he played both games of the doubleheader, had a great night at the plate and in the outfield and even pitched in the championship game Sunday,” Siracusa said. “All heart, he looked tired and worn out, but there was no way he was sitting this out. He’s a warrior.”

Former Ely great— Moss passes away

The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled that former star Blanche Ely running back Tyrone Moss died from heart failure last week.

Moss, who also starred at the University of Miami, died at the age of 33. The report from the medical examiner said Moss had hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity, and was admitted July 23 to Memorial Hospital West for a procedure for his heart.

Moss also had congestive heart failure and while he was at the Pembroke Pines Hospital, a cardiac catheter was inserted on July 25. He was given a LifeVest, an external defibrillator that can detect irregular heartbeats and provide a shock to the patient.

The report said as Moss was leaving the hospital and waiting for his ride the night of July 26, he passed out. He was brought into the emergency room where he had a “cardiac event” and hospital staff was unable to revive him.

The 2003 Blanche Ely graduate rushed for a Broward County record 7,105 yards during his high school career and led the Tigers to a state title in his junior year.

Moss went on to star for the Hurricanes in college from 2003-2006, where he had seven 100-yard games, putting him 10th on the team’s all-time list.

July 17: A man was arrested and charged with domestic violence at 1428 SE 4 Ave. A woman reported that her boyfriend, the man who was arrested, slapped her and choked her and later punched her in the throat.

July 17: A man said that he met a man to discuss selling him a sound system. The man who said he might be interested in the system then pulled a gun and demanded money from the other man. He then fled. The incident was reported at 623 Anderson Cir.

July 17: A man reported that someone tried to steal his motorcycle at 322 N. Federal Hwy. He said the ignition wires had been cut.

July 18: A man reported that someone smashed the back window of his vehicle causing $500 in damage. The incident was reported at 101 Lock Rd.

July 18: The manager of Daily’s at 5 N. Federal Hwy. reported that a person has been stealing a carton of cigarettes every time he has visited the store for the past two weeks.

July 19: A man reported that his friend’s vehicle was stolen while he was inside Publix at 150 S. Federal Hwy.

July 13: Police responded to a call regarding a license plate being stolen at 3600 N. Federal Hwy. They approached the passenger of a vehicle who told them the driver was inside the store. He was located and told police that he was working on the vehicle and had no knowledge of the plate being stolen. The vehicle’s registration also came back as expired. The two men were released; however, the license plate was taken and the vehicle was towed.

July 12: A driver’s license was found at 1961 NE 29 St. and turned over to police.

July 12: Police responded to a call at 3900 N. Federal Hwy. of a male subject outside a business refusing to leave. When police arrived, the subject was on the sidewalk and was told to leave by police.

July 10: It was reported that a man pumped gas at a Mobil Station at 900 SW 10 St. and left without paying for the gas.

July 11: A woman reported her vehicle stolen at 770 SE 2 Ave.

July 13: A man reported his motorcycle stolen at 450 Deer Creek Jefferson Dr.

July 13: A woman reported her vehicle stolen from in front of an apartment at 1023 Oakridge D E.

July 13: It was reported that a purse containing $4,000 and bank cards was stolen from a vehicle parked at Pioneer Park at 501 NE Eller St.

July 4: A resident found a dog at 1800 W. Sample Rd. and brought it to the Police Department. A microchip hit came back to an apartment complex in Miami, but police were unable to locate the owner. Animal Control was contacted.

July 6: Police were called out to a report of a handgun being seen on a sidewalk in front of apartments at 2400 NE 36 St. A Marksman Repeater BB gun was recovered and placed into property at the department for destruction.

July 3: A police officer found a dog at 3600 NE 31 Ave. The owner was found and the dog was turned over to him.

June 29: The store manager at 3780 N. Federal Hwy. said a subject entered the store and selected a bag of popcorn and began eating it inside. When confronted, the subject fled the store without paying. The loss was estimated at $1.

June 29: The store manager at 2450 N. Federal Hwy. said a subject entered the store and took cigarettes from behind the counter and fled the store without paying for them. The two cartons were valued at $158.98.

June 29: A police officer observed a vehicle run a red light and conducted a traffic stop at 5200 N. Federal Hwy. The driver advised police that his driver’s license was suspended and the vehicle was towed from the location.

June 26: A woman reported that a man came onto her patio at her home at 441 SE 14 St. and stole a bicycle valued at $180.

June 26: A man took several tools valued at $316 and claimed he was going to use the tools to work on a project he had been hired to do. The man did not do the work and did not return the tools. The incident was reported at 60 SW 12 Ave.

June 26: A man reported his scooter stolen from an apartment parking lot at 4351 NW 9 Ave.

June 29: A woman reported that while she was applying for a job at Dunkin Donuts at 1101 S. Powerline Rd., another woman stole her wallet.

June 29: It was reported that a man cashed a fraudulent paycheck for $1,000 at Fine Furniture at 225 S. Federal Hwy.

June 29: It was reported that an air conditioning unit valued at $2,000 was stolen from an unoccupied home at 201 NW 7 Court.

June 15: Staff at a doctor’s office at 2502 N. Federal Hwy. observed a theft where a patient left his wallet on the counter and an individual removed $170 from it. The patient had recovered his money and did not pursue charges against the subject.

June 15: A city resident paid the building department for bathroom renovations made without a permit at 1701 NE 22 Ave. The check ,which was dropped off, was returned for insufficient funds. The amount of the check was $6887.87.

June 17: A resident found a dog running loose at 3300 NE 23 Ave. and brought it into the police department. The dog had no tag and was turned over to Broward County Animal Control.
